Steeped in history
A Mr and Mrs Woods had Kananook built in the 1880s. The Lindenow Racecourse was created on the Estate also, with the last horse race of each meeting called the “Kananook Plate”.
One complete wing of Kananook was the result of an 1880s Victorian historic addition and “renovation” that contributes to the charm of the “Private Residence” Apartment Villa today:
The extra wide antique wall lining boards from under the wallpaper are now a feature of Kananook Homesteads hardwood floors and the bathroom counter is made from the original antique reclaimed feature timber.
Just as the Lindenow Cup transferred to the racetrack in Bairnsdale, 1880s Kananook Heritage House has relocated to Bairnsdale and now overlooks the beautiful Mitchell River Valley at Picnic Point.
Recently completed major repairs, restorations, refurbishments and renovations are complimented with quality modern conveniences and amenities, to create a premier Luxury Getaway Retreat that includes purpose built apartment accommodation as part of the original homestead that's now fully insulated, with heating and cooling.
We invite you to experience the relaxed tranquil charm of 1880s Kananook to relax, rejuvenate and unwind for your next holiday escape and experience a luxury getaway with a past, and a piece of Victorian history.”
